Vietnam: Weitere Provinz in Zentralvietnam befallen

Quang Nam became the latest province in Vietnam to be hit by bird flu as a local official said Wednesday specimens taken from local ducks tested positive for the H5N1 strain.
The specimens were taken from three flocks in two districts where ducks died in large numbers over the past few days, Nguyen Ngoc Quang, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said.
The provincial authorities had ordered the culling of all poultry in the bird flu-hit districts, he said.
However, floods triggered by prolonged rains inundated the province, making it impossible to find a place to bury the culled poultry, he said.
Meanwhile, a local woman was discharged from hospital Tuesday after testing negative for the disease.
Nguyen Thi Lan, 27, was hospitalized at the health center in the province’s Nui Thanh district 10 days ago with flu symptoms. Her flock of 600 ducks had died earlier.
Doctors at the center said she suffered from pneumonia.
The central province is the 16th in the country to still have bird flu. Since October 22 cities and provinces in Vietnam out of a total of 65 have been hit by the deadly disease. Six announced they had got rid of it since.
The epidemic has infected 92 people, 42 of them fatally.
